A large percentage of carp were introduced as tiny fingerlings in 1994. These originals have recently been mixed with hand picked scaly carp from the best UK fish farms. The two-acre Back Lake now boasts a phenomenal stocks and is well known for exceptionally beautiful fish.
The Back Lake is the home to the complex record at 36lb 8oz. At least four others have broken the 30lb barrier and there's a very healthy number of 20lbers. An estimated 170 carp in total.
Good numbers large koi/ghost carp are resident adding variety, these fish are thought to be at least 23 years old. Some of these 'ornamentals' have broken the 20lb barrier, with one over 30lb.
The Back Lake is secure and very private. A deep, wide ditch on the far side of a high embankment surrounds the lake, meaning you see no one else apart from anglers and fishery staff during your visit.
The fishery only allows those booked for the day on the site. On a lake exclusive booking you'll only see the anglers in your group on the bank.
Surrounded by beautifully mature trees the Back Lake has four islands, 13 swims and a few intimate stalking spots.
An eight-angler limit means you'll always have a reasonable amount of water to fish. To avoid any sense of overcrowding, there is a 'maximum of two anglers a bank' policy - unless you're friends on a social.
Double swims can be found on each of the four banks to cater for 'socials' or group bookings. Alternatively, if you're a lone angler, some swims allow you to tuck yourself away and enjoy some peace and quiet.
